Poland scrambled fighter jets in response to Russia's large-scale missile attack on Ukraine

In response to yet another wave of heavy shelling of Ukrainian cities by Russia, the Polish Armed Forces have activated security protocols and scrambled military aircraft. The Polish Army’s Operational Command reported that additional fighter jet pairs have been deployed to defend Polish airspace.

This is stated in a statement by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.

In addition to fighter jets, an early warning aircraft has been deployed to the operation, and air defense systems and ground-based radar stations have been placed on high alert. Polish military leadership emphasized that these measures are preventive and aimed at preventing accidental border violations or threats to the country’s security.

The situation is being monitored in real time, and all subordinate forces are ready to respond immediately if necessary. The activity of the Polish Air Force was a response to Russia’s launch of cruise missiles from strategic bombers on the evening of April 15, which triggered an air raid alert across most of Ukraine.

On the evening of April 15, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with strike drones, some of which were headed for Odesa. One of the UAVs struck a residential high-rise building, damaging apartments on the 5th through 7th floors. There are reports of damage and casualties.

Another explosion was heard in Zaporizhzhia. This is the second attack on the city on April 15.
