Romania has denied rumors that it is sending troops to Ukraine
The Romanian Presidential Administration has denied reports that Bucharest allegedly plans to send its troops to Ukraine to participate in combat operations. The administration stated that such rumors are disinformation.
The Romanian Presidential Administration explained that Nicușor Dan had submitted a request to Parliament for approval to deploy up to 20 Romanian troops to the Operational Command of the Multinational Support Group for Ukraine, which operates in France and the United Kingdom, and that this has nothing to do with participation in combat operations.
“In recent days, a false narrative has been circulating online claiming that Romania plans to send troops to Ukraine to participate in the war. This is a manipulative and intimidating tactic that deliberately distorts the essence of the decision in order to spread baseless claims about Romania’s involvement in the conflict,” the Presidential Administration stated.
The statement also emphasized that Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine affects the security situation of all neighboring countries, including Romania.
“Romania’s top priority is the protection of our citizens. That is why our country participates in all international frameworks that help ensure this. One such framework is the ‘coalition of the willing,’“ the statement explains, noting that this refers to the military dimension of implementing political and legal guarantees for Ukraine from partners, which will take effect after hostilities cease and will serve the security interests of the entire region.
“A very small group of Romanian military personnel will participate in coordination efforts, not combat operations,” the statement emphasizes.
