Bread prices have risen again in Ukraine

Bread prices have risen again in Ukraine

In May, Ukrainian supermarkets saw another increase in bread prices. Some popular varieties have already surpassed the 50-hryvnia mark per loaf. Prices for rye and wheat bread have risen the most.

This is evidenced by data from the “Minfin” portal’s price monitoring.

According to the price monitoring results, sliced wheat bread in some retail chains now costs over 52 hryvnias, which is one of the highest figures in recent times.

At the same time, rye bread has also become significantly more expensive. In particular, a 950-gram loaf of “Stolichny” currently sells for approximately 51 hryvnias, although its price was lower as recently as April. A similar situation is observed with “Borodynivsky” bread.

Producers attribute the price increases primarily to rising costs of electricity, fuel, and fertilizers. These expenses have the greatest impact on the production costs of baked goods.

Experts note that even with a stable harvest, costs for energy and logistics continue to put pressure on the market.

Experts predict that by the end of 2026, bread and other socially essential products could become 20–25% more expensive compared to last year.

However, a sharp price spike is not expected in the near future, as grain stocks in Ukraine remain stable, and no critical issues with the planting season have been reported so far.

Among the main risks to the market are:

  • a possible increase in electricity rates;
  • adverse weather conditions;
  • further increases in logistics and fuel costs.

It is these factors that could accelerate the rise in prices for bread and other baked goods as early as the second half of the year.

The first Ukrainian strawberries have appeared in Kyiv’s markets, but their price is currently out of reach for the average buyer.
