Ukrainian forces strike Russian military targets
Units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces carried out a series of strikes on key Russian military targets on 16 March and during the night of 17 March. Among the targets hit were a surface-to-air missile system, a concentration area of the Bastion coastal missile system, a Russian communications hub, and military logistics facilities.
This was reported citing a post by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The strikes were conducted as part of measures to reduce the offensive potential of Russian troops. In particular, a TOR-M2U surface-to-air missile system was destroyed in the area of the city of Klintsy in Russia’s Bryansk region.
Ukrainian units also targeted the concentration area of the missile battalion of the 15th Separate Coastal Missile Brigade of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, which is equipped with the Bastion coastal missile system. This facility is located near the settlement of Verkhnekurganne in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea.
In addition, a Russian military communications hub was struck in the Mangush area of the temporarily occupied Donetsk region.
Ukrainian forces also targeted enemy military logistics facilities. In particular, a fuel and lubricant depot in Melitopol was hit, as well as ammunition depots in the areas of Stepne and Terpinnya in the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region.
Separate reports indicate that a drone operator training centre in the area of Henicheska Hirka in the temporarily occupied Kherson region was also struck.
Units of the Ukrainian Defence Forces also targeted Russian drone command posts in the areas of Huliaipole and Obratne in Zaporizhzhia region.
Additionally, strikes were carried out against a concentration of enemy personnel near Chasiv Yar in Donetsk region. The Defence Forces noted that the full scale of damage and Russian losses is currently being verified.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine reportedly destroyed drone depots and occupier bases across three regions.
Overall Russian military losses in the war against Ukraine since 24 February 2022 are estimated at around 1,277,620 personnel. In the past 24 hours, Ukrainian defenders eliminated a further 860 Russian troops.
In the past day, Ukrainian forces repelled 122 enemy attacks along the entire front line. The heaviest shelling was recorded in the Huliaipole and Kostiantynivka sectors. The enemy used airstrikes, kamikaze drones, and artillery, but Ukrainian forces systematically inflicted fire damage on the occupiers.
In Zaporizhzhia region, Ukrainian troops destroyed a “Merlin-VR” system.
