The Council has allowed 10th- and 11th-grade students to complete their studies at their current schools

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed a law that will allow 10th- and 11th-grade students to complete their studies at their current schools, even if the school has changed its status or been reorganized.

This applies to students who, during the 2026–2027 school year, are pursuing specialized secondary education under a two-year high school program. They will be able to continue their studies at the school to which they were enrolled or transferred, or at its successor institution.

The law also provides for a simplified procedure for obtaining or renewing licenses for institutions that have been reorganized or converted into gymnasiums. This should allow them to ensure that high school students complete their studies by the end of the 2027–2028 school year.

Svitlana Merkulova, an English teacher at Irpin Lyceum No. 2, was named Ukraine’s Best Teacher of 2026. Her students score 200 points on the National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT) in English and win awards at academic competitions. The teacher shared how she organizes her lessons and what helps her students achieve high results.

Earlier in Lviv, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, 72-year-old math teacher Vira Ovsyannikova was honored; for two years, she conducted online classes from a hospital room while staying by the side of her son, who was seriously wounded in the war.

The Ternopil City and District Court fined Daria Komenda, the former director of the Novosil Special School, 102,000 hryvnias for unlawfully depriving students of their liberty by systematically referring them to a psychiatric facility. In addition to the fine, the former director was barred from holding leadership positions in educational institutions for one year and ordered to pay nearly 50,000 hryvnias for forensic examinations.
